AI or Artificial Intelligence is generally associated with an area of computer science that emphasizes the involvement and evolvement of intelligent machines.

Although the traditional goals of A.I. were limited to offer knowledge, reasoning, problem-solving, perception, learning, planning, and ability to manipulate and move objects, AI service in 2020 will be designed for general intelligence –the intelligence of a machine that has the capacity to understand or learn any intellectual task that a human being can.

What is Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial intelligence (AI), also known as machine learning, emphasizes intelligence demonstrated by machines.

According to Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach (AIMA) written by Stuart J. Russell and Peter Norvig.

AI describes any machine that mimics ‘cognitive’ functions that humans associate with the human mind, such as “learning” and “problem-solving.”

The field of A.I. research birthed at a workshop at Dartmouth College in 1956 attended by experts from CMU, MIT, and IBM. They were limited by technology to further their research and development of AI, and it took another 30 years to actually develop A.I. tools that could do complete essential human tasks. Data mining, logical testing, and medical diagnosis were the early A.I. implementations. Today, A.I.is more or less used by anyone with the help of the internet, desktop applications, and mobile apps.

AI is classified into three categories

Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI)

ANI accounts for intelligence in performing a single task with smartness and is the most basic concept of AI. Examples include speech recognition and voice assistants such as Siri and Alexa.

Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)

AGI accounts for both smartness and efficiency applied to do various tasks as well as learn and improve over time.

Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI)

ASI is the smartest and the most sophisticated of AI. Although theoretical, ASI highlights the super intelligence that surpasses human intelligence and takes into account abstractions that are impossible for humans to think.

What are the challenges using A.I.?

The great inventions aren’t always uncontroversial. There are many benefits to A.I., but it has certain setbacks that make it a technology needing to keep improving with time.

Lack of the human approach

One of the major setbacks of A.I. is that lacks human approach to problems such as empathy and reasonability, which are quintessentially human abilities. A customer service agent can react to an emotional bond with the customer and react accordingly, which however is less likely possible with automation.

The success of a technology depends on its design

As with every machine, the usability depends largely on the design. If your chatbot doesn’t understand questions laid out by customers, the conversation will become redundant. This may chase away your customers.

Solving complex issues is human nature. If the A.I. only reacts to simple customer problems, such as purchase, billing, types of products, etc and fails to react to understand, negotiate, or find alternative solutions, it clearly becomes a simple machine. Model Errors

Artificial intelligence is not error-free. Sometimes, human prejudices seep into the system algorithms that may produce biased results. If the datasets are biased, any issues like that can cause AI to produce inaccurate outcomes.
